Communications Committee
The Communications Committee assists in advancing our Party’s message and principles through various communication channels and strategies. The committee promotes party events and activities while encouraging participation and support throughout the community. The committee achieves these through the implementation of the following strategies:
- Educate the public on platform and positions on issues.
- Share information about elections and candidates running on the Party’s ticket.
- Promote different avenues of getting involved and contributing time to the Party and community.
Chair: Ashley Sarver
Community Engagement Committee
This committee organizes our participation in community events including Ohio University Homecoming Parade, Nelsonville Parade of the Hills, Athens County Fair, and the many other parades and local festivals that take place throughout Athens County.
Chair: Patrice Beard
Community Service Committee
A bedrock principle of the Democratic Party is support for communities and the people that live in them. And that is what the Community Service Committee does through the projects its volunteers conduct across Athens County. Examples include our participation in the Adopt A Highway program, and the two Little Free Libraries we have established, as well as volunteering with the SE Ohio Food Bank, hosting free dinners, and making and distributing reusable bags.
Chair: Janalee Stock
Finance and Fundraising Committee
The Finance and Fundraising team ensures that the party has adequate resources to maintain a strong political infrastructure in the county and to support Democratic candidates at the local, state and national level. We seek creative ways to raise money and awareness that are meaningful and enjoyable for the community. Some examples include our Straw Poll Breakfast, Donkey Trot 5K Run and popular County Dinners featuring prominent politicians. We also seek support through online donations and digital fundraising campaigns.
Chair: Kate McGuckin

Neighborhood Campaign Committee
The Neighborhood Campaign Committee organizes activities that develop neighborhood connections, inform Athens residents about democratic values, and help elect Democrats. At our weekly Lunch & Learn meetings, we provide a venue for conversations with candidates and discussion of issues such as social equality, health care, jobs, education, and protecting our environment. Current voter activities include voter registration and voter contact through phone banking, letter writing, and person to person texting and other tools that promote getting out the vote for Democratic candidates. When it is safe to do so, deep and door to door canvassing will resume. We also partner with the Ohio Democratic Party on voting campaigns. The committee recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers for these and other county party activities, as well as managing the Athens Democratic Office.
